Brief History - Kinnaur
Kinnaur was known in erstwhile as the Chinni. The present name is Kinnaur, were conceived and introduced officially when the separate district was carved out on 1st of May 1960, out of the erstwhile Mahasu district.
The region falling between Kashmir and Nepal in the Western Himalayas was essentially the tract inhabited by the Kinner tribe.
Kalidas has also made a description of Kinners in his famous book 'KUMARASAMBHAVA'.
