Kinnaur is a district of Himachal Pradesh, which is located in the North-Eastern part of it. Kinnaur district is divided into 6 tehsils (counties). Reckong Peo is the headquarters of Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

Location 

     Kinnaur is situated in the North-Eastern part of Himachal Pradesh, lying on the both sides of the river Satluj. 


Major Highway

                National Highway 5 is the major highway of Kinnaur. Headquarters Reckong Peo is 226 km from Shimla by NH 5.


Market

       Reckong Peo is the principal market of Kinnaur. There are a few traditional items' shops, daily needs shops and hotels situated into the market. A Bus Stand is also there.

The Satluj Valley

     It is the largest river valley of the district.


The Baspa or Sangla Valley

         Baspa Valley is drained by the Baspa river and Sangla is named after the Sangla village.


The Satluj River

        It is the main river of the district. The Satluj divides Kinnaur  almost in two equal parts.

         

The Spiti River

         Spiti is the second major river of the district Kinnaur.


Nako Lakes

         Nako is a village of district Kinnaur and there are 2 lakes into the village, these lakes are known as Nako Lakes.

   District Kinnaur has 6 tehsils (counties)- 


(1) Hangrang,      

(2) Kalpa, 

(3) Moorang, 

(4) Pooh, 

(5) Sangla, 

(6) Bhaba Nagar.




Brief  History - Kinnaur


Kinnaur  was known in erstwhile as the Chinni. The present name is Kinnaur, were conceived and introduced officially when the separate district was carved out on 1st of May 1960, out of the erstwhile Mahasu district.

The region falling between Kashmir and Nepal in the Western Himalayas was essentially the tract inhabited by the Kinner tribe.

Kalidas has also made a description of Kinners in his famous book 'KUMARASAMBHAVA'.

 To reach Kinnaur, you have to go to Reckong Peo, it is the headquarters of Kinnaur district and there is a Bus Stand situated.

Jatoli Shiv Temple, Solan; Himachal Pradesh (India)

Jatoli Shiv Mandir    The temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. Completing the construction work of the temple took 39 years. It is the highest temple of Asia with 111 feet height.
