                Kuthar is a sub tehsil in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. It is known for its 'Kuthar Fort'.

Kuthar was the Princely State of India before the independence of India, after free from the colonial kingdom it was involved into the Himachal pradesh of India.

           It is basically connected with State Highway 9. Kuthar is 13 km from Subathu  and 44 km from Baddi. Dharampur to Kuthar distance is 19 km by Major District Road 6.


Market 

  It is a small market area, where there are about 30-40 shops and a few hotels. A heritage hotel is also at kuthar.


Kuthar Fort  

              It is hundreds of (approx. 800) years old. Fort is spread into a very large area and now it is in demolished condition but still many things are there to see and explore like water springs and building art etc.


Kuthar Palace

  It was the residence of the royal family of Kuthar, but now, it is a private property and converted into a hotel. So, some historical items are under the care of the hotel.


Brief History : Kuthar 


      Kuthar was founded by Surat Chand. Kuthar in early times seems to have been tributary in turn to Bilaspur and Nalagarh. Gurkha invasion was held in 1803 AD and they ruled at Kuthar upto 1816. It was merged with Baghat on 15th April, 1948 and remained part of Mahasu district till August 1972 and later on it, Mahasu  became known as Solan district. So, Kuthar is the part of Solan district.

(By Road)


-From Shimla Side

        If you come from Shimla side then take State Highway 9 from Waknaghat, Kuthar is 46 km from Waknaghat.


-From Solan

 Suppose you are at Solan then take the Solan - Subathu link road, Which is Major District Road. Solan to Kuthar distance is 35 km.


-From Kalka/Delhi side

                          And if you come from Kalka Delhi side then Dharampur - Subathu road is convenient to you, It is only if you are into Himachal Pradesh, otherwise you can take the route from Pinjore of Haryana to reach Kuthar. Pinjore to Kuthar distance is 46 km and Dharampur to Kuthar distance by Major District Road 6 ( MDR 6) is 19 km.
