      National Highway 154 is the major road of Kullu and the capital of Himachal Pradesh (Shimla) is 209 km away from Kullu.


Location

          On the North and  North-East, Kullu is bounded by Lahaul-Spiti and Kangra Districts, on the East and South-East by Kinnaur and Shimla districts. Kullu is a hilly area.


Market 

     Kullu has 2 major markets, first is Kullu itself and second is Manali. Both markets have traditional items shops, daily needs shops and hotels. Busses run between Kullu and Manali.


Airport

    Kullu has an own airport, which is situated at Bhuntar and it is 10 km away from Kullu city.

Manali 

    Manali in Kullu district, derives its name Manu-Alya (the house of Manu). Manu was the ancient sage.  Manali  is a place to observe tradition of the region and it is the favourite location to the visitors in the district for trekking and hangout.


Solang Valley

          This valley is known for paragliding and tracking. Solang Valley is 14 km from Manali.


Kasol

      It is a small village in Kullu and it is also known as 'Mini Israel'. It provides a good area for trekking.

      Mahishsuramardani, Vishveshwara temples at Bajaura; Hidimba Devi at Manali; Parshurama at Nirmand and Doca - Moca at Gajan.


Brief History - Kullu


 The original name of the Kullu was KULUTA. It occurs in Sanskrit literature, as in the Vishnu Purana and Ramayana. Kullu was declared to be a district of Himachal Pradesh on 1st of November in 1966 AD.

     National Highway 154 is a very convenient source to reach Kullu. Shimla to Kullu distance is 209 km and Chandigarh to Kullu distance is 253 km.

Jatoli Shiv Mandir    The temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. Completing the construction work of the temple took 39 years. It is the highest temple of Asia with 111 feet height.
