RAMPUR
Feelocation : RAMPUR (SHIMLA)
'Journey makes the destination more beautiful' is the perfect quote for this place. Rampur is a beautiful city situated at the bank of the river Satluja. This place is at a low altitude and surrounded by high mountaineries. The place is about 127km from shimla. I like to share my personal experience with this place that may help you to understand the place in a better way.
We visited this place during the month of the Lavi fair. It was a moderate season and the wind was not that bitter. We started our journey in the morning from Shimla. I must say the way to Rampur is the wooing one. The beauty of nature and weather welcome you in it's own way. The places I am getting in my mind are Deog, Kumarsen, Narkanda ( there were so many others, but I am not getting in my mind). The NH which will take you to your destination is going to be your best companion, because the road is in very good condition and you're going to enjoy the journey. The river Satluja flows by the side of the NH. We went to the bank of the river , the water was so cold and clean. River was making the place more attractive, it was like a perfect painting of a relaxing landscape. We reached the fair , which was in a very large place. Hundreds of shops were there. Full of crowd. Sounds of hawking, people were shouting, children were running, the place was full of joy. As I remember, the shops were all over the road, they covered about 2kms of that main NH and a huge ground in the middle of the city was also covered with the shops, a ground full of different types of hangings.
We saw a small Bus Stand at the side of the river which was full of crowds. Then we moved to the fair. We saw different traditional clothes, jewellery, food and hand crafts there. There were animals for sale too. I saw a large shop of traditional jewelry there. The owner of that shop was a person who looks like a kinnauri person from his appearance. In that shop I saw a painting of a lady in the traditional dress named 'Reshta' with traditional jewellery ' a huge necklace named Haar. The lady was almost covered with the jewelry and the jewelry was made up of silver. The fair was full of traditional things , if you like to collect or want to see himachali traditional things you should go to this fair . I also want to tell you about the best experience of the way to Rampur. The places you're going to see are tremendous. The journey is so relaxing and peaceful . If you love to go long drives on a peaceful road, this journey is going to give you this pleasure.
History
This place belongs to the temple Sarahan which is situated a bit away from Rampur. The place is the main city of the former chief minister of Himachal Mr. Virbhadra Singh, he is also known as Raja sahib in this area. Because he belongs to the family who used to rule over this area. There is also a Rajmahal. This Rajmahal belongs to the former kings of this place. People believe that in the Sarahan temple the pooja can only be done by the family of Raja. Due to this belief the annual or main pooja of the Sarahan temple can only be done by the family of Raja or now days Virbhadra Singh.
