Solan Town (Himachal Pradesh)

Solan is known for its huge Mushroom production. So, its other name is 'Mushroom City of India'. 

It is a town of Himachal Pradesh (India) and the headquarters of district Solan

Solan is named after the Hindu goddess Maa Shoolini.

The town is mainly spread from Deoghat to Chambaghat and Saproon to Jatoli.

Shoolini Devi Temple :-


    Maa Shoolini is the chief goddess of Solan, and a dedicated temple is also at Solan town.

Shoolini Devi Temple - A Quick Review 


Location:-

Temple is situated at 'The Old Market of Solan', it is 10 minutes walking distance to 'The Mall Road'

 

History:-

 Maa Shoolini was the worshiped by the rulers of Bhaghat Princely State,so they made the temple for his Maa.


Festival:-

In the month of June, every year, Solan is celebrated fair of Shoolini Mata. Time duration of this State Level Fair is 3 days.




Jatoli Shiv Temple:-

   Jatoli Shiv temple is the highest temple of Himachal Pradesh.

 Temple is situated at the Rajgarh road and Jatoli is 6-7 km. far away from The Mall Road.


Interesting Fact:-

 Temple is made with South Indian Temple Building Style  and here is installed a Rhinestone Shivalinga.

A big number of devotees have come to worship Lord Shiva, in the month of February, a special Shiva Day which is known as the ShivaRatri. 



Karol Peak/Tibba

Karol Peak is famous for its cave and trek.

Location:-

 Karol Tibba is 5-6 km. far away from the Chamba Ghat (Solan).From the peak you can see the whole Solan town, Shimla and Chandigarh.



Special Features:-

 It is a local recognition that the mountain is a part of 'The Sanjeevani Mountain' which was picked up 

by the Lord Hanuman to save the life of Shri Lakshmana.

There is also a cave which is assumed that the cave was made by the Pandwas and the cave is too long, it joins the two states(Himachal Pradesh and Haryana) of India.


Bon Monastery, Solan


 Bon Monastery is situated 16 km away from Solan city at Dolanji. Monastery is famous for their picturesque views and clean environment. 


About - Bon Monastery, Solan

This monastery is the offshoot of the Menri Monastery and Menri is the 2nd oldest monastery of the world. Monastery was founded in 1969 by Abbot Lungtok Tenpai Nyima.

Thodo Ground - A Quick Review


Location:-

 Ground is located beside the Rajgarh Road and approx 200 metres away from the Mall Road.


Special Feature:-

 This ground, in the past days, was dedicated only for the 'Thodo Game'. Thodo game is an 'Archery Game'.  At present the game is played only in Shoolini fair.

 It is a peaceful park  and it has good seating, activity and walking space.

 It is situated on the upper hill side of the Mall Road,and the link road is connected to Rajgarh Road.

 This park is dedicated to children. Park is filled with many types of facilities, which relate to children.

Park is situated beside the Mall Road and opposite to the Rajgarh Road.

Mohan Park

It is constructed by Mr. Mohan Meakin, owner of the world famous ' Mohan Meakin's Brewery'.


Location

 This Park is also situated beside the Mall Road and nearer to the Chamba-Ghat.


Special feature

At the entry gate, it has a beautiful sculpture of the Howk, which attracts visitors. It is a decent place to roam around.

Solan's Mall Road is basically a market road. Both sides of the road are filled with shops, malls and hotels etc.

Road Connect

The Mall Road is connected with the Kalka-Shimla National Highway and Rajgarh Road is also connected with it.


Special Feature

 The Mall Road is closed for vehicles in the evening for 2 hours, if people can visit the Mall Road Market Freely.

 


Railway Station Solan

It is a mini Railway Station but it provides good facilities to passengers. 

Location

Solan Railway Station is situated downwards to the Mall Road and upwards to the New Bus Stand. Link Road is connected to the station which derives from the Mall Road (Opposite to the Rajgarh Road).


Special Feature:-

Solan Railway Station is situated  between the railway line of Kalka and Shimla. Kalka-Shimla rail line is a narrow gauge railway line and Toy Train is run over it.

It is situated beside the Kalka -Shimla  National Highway( Between Solan's Bypass and Chambaghat)

 Solan was the capital of the ancient Baghat Princely State. Rulers of that Princely State constructed the Temple of Maa Shoolini and developed the area as a town of Maa Shoolini.

As we know  Solan is named after Maa Shoolini.
